Ing. Freiberger, a survivor of Terezín and member of the Council of Elders, wrote this
testimony in 1973. He was head of Produktionsstätten
(workplaces) in
Terezín that produced for both the Nazis and the ghetto itself. After the war, Freiberger was
accused of collaboration. The article consists of the second part of his memoires. It provides a
survey of the production plants in Terezín, as well as their structure and organisation. The author
also mentions the failed Nazi plans to erect textile factories in Terezín such as in the Lodz ghetto.
The study is influenced by Freiberger's attempt to justify his function in Terezín. He stresses that
only a minority of prisoners had to work at the workplaces. Nevertheless, he argues that they
saved numerous lives because the workers were protected from deportation to the East.
