Stránský reviews two novels by Israeli writer Ota Benjamin Kraus. Kraus wrote his
first novel immediately after the war on the topic of the Terezín Family Camp
in Auschwitz-Birkenau. It was entitled Zemì bez Boha (The Country without God).
Decades later, he wrote a second novel on this subject entitled Můj bratr dým
(My Brother the Smoke). Kraus employs different literary techniques to depict the horrors of
Birkenau. Both Kraus and the author were prisoners of the family camp
.
